English Baccalaureate takes computer science seriously (at last!)

Computer Science will be included in the English Baccalaureate. It will be one of the four science options, joining physics, chemistry and biology on the list.

The move follows calls from leading global tech businesses, including Google, Microsoft, IBM, BT and Facebook, for computer science to be an E-Bacc option. This will allow millions of children to learn coding and become active creators of technology instead of being passive users (with good secretarial skills!)

ICT is to be scrapped from the schools' curriculum. It is seen as being dull, and even harmful, and is often blamed for the failure to deliver the computer programming skills urgently required by the UK technology sector.
