Admission rules for St Mary's Church of England Primary School (Cheshunt)

This is a primary free school, due to open in September 2015. 

Group 1: Faith Based Places – 30 places

Children ‘of the Christian faith’ who are looked after or previously looked after (children who ceased to be looked after because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order or a special guardianship order).

Children who have a sibling (brother or sister) ‘of the Christian faith’ attending St Mary’s CE Primary School and who are in Reception to Year 6 at the time of application. The governors use the same definition of sibling as the Local Authority. Children of teaching staff ‘of the Christian faith’ Parents/carers or children who attend regular worship at a Christian Church in the Borough of Broxbourne, whose attendance is verified by their Minister. Regular worship means attending at least once a month and for at least the past two years at the closing date for applications. Worship as part of school activities would not be considered sufficient.

A Christian Church is a recognised Anglican Church or another Christian denomination which is a member of the Churches Together in Britain & Ireland, the Evangelical Alliance or Affinity. If a Church is considered not to be recognised, an official of the St Albans Diocese will be consulted and their decision will be final.

Random allocation will be used if any further tie‐break is necessary within criteria 1(d), 1(e) and 1(f).

Group 2: Community Places – 30 places

  1. a)  Children who are looked after or previously

    looked after (children who ceased to be looked after because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order).

  2. b)  Children who have a sibling (brother or sister) attending St Mary’s CE Primary School and who are in Reception to Year 6, at the time of application. The governors use the same definition of sibling as the Local Authority.

  3. c)  Children of teaching staff for posts where the member of staff has been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

  4. d)  Other children, with those living closest distance from the address point of the school to the address point of the child’s home, having priority for admission.

Random allocation will be used if any further tie‐break is necessary within criterion 2(d).

All applicants will be considered equally for a place under priority group 2, but only those of the faith will be considered under priority group 1. If fewer than 30 children qualify for admission under priority group 1, additional places will be offered under priority group 2 until the admission number of 60 is met. If fewer than 30 children qualify for admissions under priority group 2 additional places will be offered under priority group 1 until the admissions number of 60 is met.
