Admission rules for Broxbourne School (The)

This is an academy mixed-sex secondary school.

Specialist status: Business and Enterprise, Languages, Science

If you are applying under Rules 1-5: Use the Calculator

If you are applying under Rule 6: Don't use the Calculator. Whether you'll get in under this Rule will depend on how your child performs in aptitude tests.

Rule 1: Children in public care (Children, Looked After).

Rule 2: Children with a demonstrable medical or social need to go to the school. You must provide supporting evidence from a doctor, psychologist or other professional involved with your child. The supporting evidence must relate specifically to the school and clearly demonstrate why it is the only school that can meet your child's needs.

Rule 3: Children of staff.

Rule 4: Children who have an older sibling at the school at the time of application. A ‘sibling’ means the sister, brother, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, or child of the parent/carer or partner. The child must live in the same house as the sibling from Monday to Friday. Important: you won’t qualify if it is anticipated that the sibling will have left the school before the date of proposed admission.

Rule 5: Home to school distance.

The tie-breaker. After places have been allocated using rules 1, 2, 3, 4, home to school distance is used as the tie-breaker to allocate any remaining places within the 90% of places (186) allocated to rules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Rule 6: Language aptitude tests. The remaining 10% of places (20) will be allocated for children with an aptitude for languages on the basis of an assessment carried out at the school. Priority will be given to those with the highest score in the test.

Tie-break: see Rule 5, places will be allocated using home to school distance. In the event that applications for places under this criterion are less than 10% of the total, any remaining places will be added to the places available under 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (in that order, until places have been allocated).
