Admission rules for Leventhorpe

This is an academy mixed-sex secondary school.

Specialist status: Business and Enterprise; Training School.

Please see the school's website if you'd like to view the rules in their original form or contact the school if you need any advice. The Calculator is only useful for Rules 1-5. Rule 6 concerns musical aptitude (determined through testing).

(a) 90% of allocations will be made using the following four criteria in the order set out below:

Rule 1: Looked after children (children in public care) and children who were previously in care and then subject to adoption, or a special guardianship or residence order.

Rule 2: Children who, at the closing date for applications, have a brother or sister currently attending The Leventhorpe School. They also need to live at the same permanent address from Monday to Friday. ‘Brothers and sisters’ includes stepbrothers, stepsisters, half brothers, half sisters and adopted brothers and sisters who are living at the same permanent address as the prospective student. ‘Currently attending’ means children who are actually at the school, or children who have been offered a place, but have not yet started at the school.

Rule 3: Children of staff.

Rule 4: Children who, at the closing date for applications, attend one of the following primary schools: Hatfield Heath, High Wych, Little Hallingbury, Mandeville, Reedings, Sheering, Spellbrook, St Andrews (Much Hadham).

Rule 5: Should there be places unfilled after applying the criteria above, then places will be offered on the basis of shortest distance between permanent residence to the school as determined by Hertfordshire County Council, with those who are closer being accorded a higher priority. Addresses are routinely checked and places may be withdrawn if a false address has been given. In the event of being oversubscribed in Criterion 3 or 4, then selection within this criterion will be determined by applying Criterion 5.

(b) After applying (a) above, up to 10% of places will be allocated from all of the applications remaining using criterion 6 below:

Rule 6: Students who can demonstrate a proven aptitude in music. This will be determined on the basis of an aptitude test. Priority will be given to those with the highest score in this test. If you wish to apply under this criterion a further form will need to be completed. This will be available from the school. In the event of a tie-break being required under criterion 6 then places will be allocated using criteria 1 – 5 in order. Should less than 10% of places be allocated under criterion 6 then any remaining places will be allocated using criteria 1 – 5.

Students with an EHC (Education, Health and Care) Plan which names the school will be admitted.
