How to interpret your results

  • Lots of stars = GOOD NEWS: The Admission Calculator shows you that you would have got a place at the school in recent years. If you like the school, then that's clearly good news. You're in with a reasonable chance – so it's a 'safe' school for you to choose. Action plan: Bear in mind that pressure on Hertfordshire schools is increasing every year, so don't take anything for granted. Consider including at least one more 'safe' bet in your three preferences.

  • Lots of crosses = BAD NEWS: The Admission Calculator shows you that you consistently wouldn't have got a place at the school in recent years. If you like the school, then that's clearly bad news. However, at least you know it's a longshot, and can now plan accordingly. Action plan: You may still decide to apply for the school, but rather than pinning your hopes on it, you should come up with a realistic back-up plan.

  • Mixture of stars and crosses = MIXED NEWS: The Admission Calculator shows you you would have got into the school in some years, but not in other years. In other words, this is a chancy option. You might be lucky, but don't count on it. Action plan: It's fine to name this as one of your chosen schools, but also include at least one 'safe' school among your preferences.
