Find the best schools for my child in Hertfordshire |

There are hundreds of schools to choose from – so how can you narrow it down to the best one for your child?
Well, first of all, decide whether you're interested in primary schools (includes first, infant, middle and junior schools) or secondary schools.
Perhaps you want a church school, or a school you can walk to, or a school with good exam results. You can decide on your criteria, and then draw up a list of suitable schools, by looking at our customised Google map (above). Enter your town, using the handy tool at the bottom of the map, and then all the schools in the area will come up. Zoom into check out where they are, in relation to your house - or the property you're thinking of moving to. You can then click on any of the place markers to get the lowdown on their exam results, Ofsted reports, school profile and so on.
Previously, parents have been advised to consider only their three closest schools. But you might not get into any of them. Or you might be desperate to avoid all three. We say: broaden your horizons and seek out the hidden gems. And never, ever, assume that a school is a cert - even if it's right next to your house. Use the Admission Calculators to help predict your chances of getting in. You will be able to see if you'd have got a place at the school in 2011... and remember, we only use official admission data, there's no guesswork involved.
Now, let's go shopping for schools...
