The most-wanted primary schools in 2009

These are the schools that parents really, really want. The following primary schools attracted more applicants per place than any of the others in Hertfordshire, for reception places starting in September 2009/ January 2010. For the second year running, the most desirable school in the county is Maple in St Albans – congratulations! The second and third ranking schools have also retained their positions from last year. The message from parents is loud and clear: keep on doing what you're doing!

  2. Boxmoor Primary School, Hemel Hempstead (7.37 apps per place). Ranked 2nd last year.

  3. Aboyne Lodge School, St Albans (6.83 apps per place). Ranked 3rd last year.

  4. Templewood Primary School, Welwyn GC (6.67 apps per place). Ranked 5th last year.

  5. St Peter's School, St Albans (6.6 apps per place). Ranked 6th last year.

  6. Monksmead School, Borehamwood (6.53 apps per place). Ranked 7th last year.

  7. Harvey Road Primary School, Croxley Green (6.47 apps per place). Ranked 8th last year.

  8. Abel Smith School, Hertford (6.43 apps per place). Newcomer: not in the top ten last year.

  9. Bushey Heath Primary School , Bushey Heath (6.17 apps per place). Newcomer: not in the top ten last year.

  10. Newberries Primary School, Radlett (6 apps per place). Ranked 10th last year.

The most-wanted secondary schools in 2009

These are Hertfordshire's hottest secondary schools, attracting more applicants than any others in the county in 2009. Top of the list is Parmiter's – again. The school had a staggering total of 1326 applications this year (for 186 places). These schools have serious parent pulling power!

  4. Rickmansworth School, Rickmansworth (5.42 apps per place). Ranked 3rd last year.

  5. Sandringham School, St Albans (4.68 apps per place). Ranked 7th last year.

  6. Beaumont School, St Albans (4.57 apps per place). Ranked 6th last year.
